The period of time before the American Civil War is as the Antebellum Period. During this time tensions between the North and the South began to grow. Increasingly different economic systems fueled the fire, and the ever looming issue of slavery was rearing its ugly head. Today we are going to discuss some of the events that lead up to the Civil War and how it all actually began.
Journal:
America essentially had to different economies at the onset of the Civil War. The north relied on manufacturing and the south relied on agriculture. Why do you think this split happened? How do you think the two economies affected one another?

Go to the website below and read the information provided about the Battle of Fort Sumter. Take notes on the events that occurred, we will discuss the battle as a class when everyone has finished reading. Fort Sumter

Homework:
Create a pamphlet using Microsoft Word, that contains information about the lead up to the civil war. You should include important persons, policies, bills, acts, etc. Create the pamphlet with the thought that it is for someone that knows nothing about the civil war, perhaps a younger sibling. Include no more than 4 pictures in your pamphlet. Here is an example of what yours could look like (this pamphlet includes information that you do not need to have).
