After the War was over, the clean up had to begin. Union campaigns had destroyed parts of the south and the southern economy was in shambles. The period known as the Reconstruction was in many ways just a turbulent as the War itself. Racial tensions began to grow as newly freed slaves and white southerns had to find a way to coexist. Today we will explore how the Reconstruction was setup, what actually happened during the period, and the results of the effort to rebuild and institute the south.
