Day Two: Photostory



Focus and Review of previous work/knowledge:


Starter Question: How does one tell a two minute story about a life experience?

Anticipatory set:


The teacher will present a format to narrate a historical event. He or she will also offer advices on how to condense information.

Instructional Activity:


1.) The student will form groups of four.
2.) Each student in a group has a role: two researchers, a technician and a narrator.
3.) The students will first research information about their concepts.
4.) The technician will find images of their topic and use Photostory to formulate a sequence of pictures.
5.) The narrator will compose an exposition.
6.) The technician and the narrator will work together and create a Photostory.
7.) The researchers will validate their completion.
Concepts: Pearl Harbor, Tehran Conference, Operation Torch, Operation Huskey, Operation Overlord, Battle of the Bulge, Okinawa, Iwo Jima, Midway, and Hiroshima and Nagasaki.

Guided practice and checking for understanding:

With this cooperative learning strategy, the students collect and interpret information, in order to create a movie file about their assigned/ selected concept.

Independent practice:


Each student has his or her own role in the group. The students will be each held accountable for their role in the process.

Closure:


Students are instructed to hand in all materials and submit the file, or at least the projects.
